About Ted Izatt

Ted A. Izatt has over 30 years of Wall Street, industry, investing and boardroom experience with both private and public companies.

He ran the Moody’s Global Oil and Gas Group and was instrumental in establishing the criteria for rating energy companies above the sovereign ceiling. He was the top ranked fixed income and crossover energy analyst for many years. Institutional Investor highlighted his outstanding credentials, including his ability to move markets, his significant relationships within the oil and gas industry and with investors, and his ability to see beyond financials to truly understand the company management. He is currently focusing on private investments.

From October 2008 through November 2014, he was a “C level” executive and investor with Quantum Reservoir Impact (QRI), a privately-held energy company. He served in several capacities including Chief Investment Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Investor Relations. He was instrumental in helping QRI have sufficient financing during its early years.  

Prior to joining QRI, Mr. Izatt served as Senior Managing Director of Bear Stearns’ fixed income research department covering high grade and crossover energy and basic materials from March 2004 to August 2008. From July 1997 to February 2004, Mr. Izatt worked as Senior Vice President with Lehman Brothers covering the high grade oil and gas sector. During his time with Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, he was ranked by Institutional Investor as the top high-grade and cross-over fixed income energy analyst for six of seven years prior to 2008.

From February 1992 to June 1997, Mr. Izatt worked as a managing director of Moody’s Investors Service. While at Moody’s, he ran its Global Oil and Gas Group, with responsibility for the ratings of oil and gas companies and energy-related project financing throughout the world. He also covered project finance and numerous companies including integrated oils, exploration and production, oil services, and drilling. Additional ratings experience included structured financing and energy companies involved in other industries such as steel, shipping and chemicals. He played a critical role in establishing Moody’s analytic framework for rating project financing above the foreign currency ceilings.

From 1987 to 1993, Mr. Izatt worked as Vice President/Associate Director, Corporate Finance officer for Barclay’s de Zoete Wedd/Barclay’s Bank PLC. He worked on originating, structuring and negotiating investment and commercial banking transactions for international energy corporations and domestic U.S. pipeline companies. From 1984 to 1987, he worked for Bank America in marketing, assisted in valuing acquisitions and managed a team mandated to identify problem credits.

Mr. Izatt served as an Independent Director for Forbes Energy Services and was on the Audit and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees. He also served as a member of the board of directors of Quantum Reservoir Impact, LLC (privately held) and Oasis Bank (privately held) which was sold to Spirit of Texas Bank while he was on the Board.

Mr. Izatt is a recognized oil and gas and investment expert and has made a number of television appearances including Fox Business News, Bloomberg TV, Reuters, CNBC and Yahoo Finance. He has published articles in the Oil and Gas Monitor and has been interviewed by top news organizations including The Wall Street Journal and Forbes. He was previously a Visiting Lecturer for Mays Business School, Department of Finance, at Texas A&M University.

Mr. Izatt has a Master’s of Business Administration degree from BYU’s Marriott School of Management and a Bachelors in Communications (Journalism). He previously served on the alumni board of the Marriott School of Management and is the past Chairman of the Houston Region BYU Alumni Association.

He has done extensive volunteer work assisting people find or improve employment and helping bring clean water to villages in Malawi, Africa. He served a mission in Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a hobby, he does standup comedy and performs for charity events.
